A Sailor’s Life for Me!
Educator Resources

A Sailor’s Life for Me! Educator Resources approaches historical
understanding in an interdisciplinary manner to teach students:

  • The causes, effects and implications of the War of 1812
  • The role of USS Constitution and sailors during
    the War of 1812
  • To develop critical thinking skills, further creativity and
use historical understanding as a vehicle to explore other subjects

The War of 1812 is often referred to as America’s second war of independence. As America developed as a young nation, the country was again threatened by the British in their economy, land territories, and American’s individual rights. During the War of 1812, American soldiers and sailors fought both on land and at sea. A Sailor’s Life for Me! presents life at sea during the War of 1812 for those serving aboard USS Constitution, one of the few naval vessels in America’s young navy.

A Sailor’s Life for Me! connects to the Common Core Standards (English Language Arts, Literacy for History & Social Studies, Science and Technology and Mathematics).
